Copenhagen duo 100%WET share new single “Ether” out now via Crunchy Frog Recordings.
100%WET are a duo reshaping indie rock with an atmospheric sound that blends the expansive textures of shoegaze, the punch of ‘90s breakbeats, the deep pulse of drum’n’bass, with a touch of vaporwave nostalgia.
The band refer to their unique sound as “hypergaze,” merging these eclectic influences into something both hypnotic and energising. "Ether" released via Crunchy Frog Records is their second-ever single and features Swedish guest vocalist Eir, who adds a haunting ethereal quality to the track.
Propelled by baggy breakbeats, acid-tinged basslines, and reverb-soaked shoegaze guitars, "Ether" explores the dual emotions of euphoria and detachment found in altered states. The track’s bold, hard-tuned chorus, sung by Eir, captures the bittersweet feeling of bliss tangled with disconnection:
"I don't know how to connect / Lost in disarray / I don't know how to connect / So I disconnect."
Speaking on the creation of the track the duo said,
“Ether was built from a loop on an analogue 303 synth known from 90’s acid house/rave culture. We gradually kept on adding, re-writing or removing different layers and sections throughout multiple iterations of the song. After we recorded vocals with Sanna (Eir), it became more clear to us that the song was asking us to embrace a more carefree or ‘over the top’ vibe that we also like from hyperpop, while still maintaining our love for loud and layered guitars.”
With "Ether", Jakob Birch and Casper Munns push their distinct sound forward, balancing introspection with dynamic energy, reflecting on the beauty and distance in altered perceptions.
The single’s artwork was crafted to mirror Ether’s themes of euphoria and detachment, giving a visual depth to the contrasting emotions woven throughout the song.
Having already played their first shows in Hamburg (DE) and Bristol (UK) 100%WET will also bring their electro-ethereal stylings to stages in Denmark and Sweden, co-headlining with Miaw.
