“I liked it” captures the intricacies of casual relationships and the important role they play in our lives. Acknowledging that though they may not be true intimacy, there is a worthwhile light heartedness and playfulness in exploring curiosities.”
Allie Nixon, no novice to the music scene, first made her mark with the debut project Little Jet in 2022. Since then, Nixon has evolved, experimenting with her sense of self and discovering her unique sound. Now, with her debut single ‘I Liked It’ under the new moniker Pool Girl, she is ready to introduce a sound that feels quintessentially her.
‘I Liked It’ radiates with a synth-soaked, glistening quality that feels boldly contemporary while seamlessly blending a nostalgic, 80s-inspired hazy sound. Much like Beach House, Pool Girl champions a dream pop sound, creating a mesmerising sonic experience that is both fresh and familiar.
The name Pool Girl is a nod to Allie’s familial roots and experience growing up in a small beach town (Carpinteria, CA). It became evident at a young age that grit and resilience is always required when going after something you care about. This ideology was particularly spotlighted by her grandpa who started his own pool cleaning service in order to stay in the United States.
While living in close proximity to the luxuries of Montecito and Santa Barbara, Allie describes her experience as being similar to a pool girl — an observer of wealth, while never quite having the carefreeness to indulge in the amenities. The work ethic and grit learned from this upbringing are what have pushed her forward in an evolving music career.
‘I Liked It’ will soon become part of Pool Girl’s debut EP ‘Trophy Wife’, which is set to feature 6 songs that cohesively play on the same melancholic yet beachy and ethereal essence that her first installment ‘I Liked It’ has.
