Copenhagen based indie-rock band shinyhunt share their second album ‘sea-salt ice cream’.
Copenhagen duo, Shinyhunt, formed by Frederik and Signe, released their second album, ‘Sea-Salt Ice Cream’, on November 22nd. This work presented an emotional journey through 10 sensitive tracks, exploring themes such as loneliness and companionship. With ethereal vocals and layers of distorted guitars, the album captured that teenage feeling on the edge of youth, offering an immersive and nostalgic experience.
"The city of no one where angels whisper in your ear’‘
'city of no one’ is the third and final single from Copenhagen based band shinyhunt’s sophomore album, ‘sea-salt ice cream’.
As the album's opening track, it encapsulates the central thematic contrast of the album, loneliness and companionship, exploring how to find solace and comfort in both.
The song begins with warm, repeating guitar riffs and driving, sporadic drums, gradually building to a soft, slow burning chorus that in an ascending release invites the listener to embark on the journey that the album promises to deliver.
‘city of no one’ takes musical inspiration in the smashing pumpkins throbbing fuzz and the Danish band Mew’s soft but angular expression.
Fresh off their debut album ’joyland grow in me’, the Copenhagen based band shared last summer the single ‘fall asleep’, a dreamy rock song with a hard-hitting chorus that’ll get stuck in your head. It weaves between the compact and claustrophobic verses and the wide and vivid choruses that finds a calm in the surrounding chaos.
As a lead single it gives a good taste of the big, amplified emotions that the 90’s alt rock inspired album sea-salt ice cream’ will exude.
After that, ‘paopufruit’ came as the second single. Beginning with a slow and soft ascent, the song's chorus kicks in asa slow, pumping power surge, where the light and breathy vocals are submerged in a fuzzy bed of guitars. The song is about floating in a dissociative state trying to conjure up emotions and desires, and having someone who’s unconditionally there to glide with you though the experience.
Before the release, Shinyhunt managed to stand out in the Nordic scene with their singles ‘Paopu Fruit’, included in New Music Friday Denmark & Iceland, and ‘City of No One’, in lists such as New Music Friday Denmark, Fresh Finds Nordics & Dansk Indie. These mentions consolidated the duo as one of the most promising proposals of Scandinavian indie rock, with a sound that connects with the hearts of different generations.
